We recently produced a music video for artist Bart Van Bemmel and his new song "What If We Run".
Us being a filmmaking website though we're not here to talk about music (although the song is great) - we're talking about how we made the video - and this one was pretty unique. Especially since we mixed three different cameras including a RED and an iPhone.
Watch this behind-the-scenes video to see how we did it...
Mixing cameras and formats etc. is something we've done for a while, and so doing this with an iPhone wasn't that unusual for us. But this was the first time with a RED, and so we were rather impressed with how all the cameras ended up matching.
Btw, we're going to do another video on the post-production where we'll go into the details on how we made that work, but more or less it involved using Lumetri Color, our LUT packs and FilmConvert.
Ultimately all cameras are just tools for a job and some are better suited than others for certain things. We're definitely not saying that iPhones or any smartphones are better than RED cameras or any professional cameras. They're just another tool at your disposal and if used properly we believe can easily and affordably add a lot to a production.
Here's the actual music video to see for yourself...
Have you mixed high-end cameras with lower-end and/or smartphone cameras? If so we'd love to hear about it... let us know in the comments below or on social media.
Happy filmmaking!
