One issue over the years of shooting with an iPhone has been the lack of a long range telephoto, especially if you shoot sports or news or wildlife footage & photos.
So that's why it was great when Apple added the 5X tele on the 15 Pro Max, which is a nice 120mm equivalent, but even that isn't super long.
So for those times we needed a longer lens we tried adding third-party ones, however, none were designed with that 5X in mind and so the results were basically unusable.
That is until now with the ReeFlex Super Telephoto.
This new lens is specifically designed for the 5X tele on the 15 Pro and the 16 Pro and creates a 10X total magnification for an amazing 240mm equivalent focal length.
Check out this video to see it in action...
Overall it's a great lens and allows you to get shots we've really never been able to do with an iPhone, and so if you've been searching for a quality long lens look then it's definitely worth considering. Right now it's available via Kickstarter, but will be on the ReeFlex website once the campaign ends.
Here are some of my thoughts based on my early use:
CONS
It's only designed for the 5X so it can't be used on the main 1X camera
Since it's only for the 5X it's not a great choice in low-light, so you're better off using a tele on the main camera for that
The minimum focus distance is 10 to15ft., so you can't be very close to a subject (unless you use the macro attachments)
You really need to use a tripod as the image will get shaky due to the long lens, especially when shooting video
PROS:
You can shoot long lens looks you've never been able to achieve with an iPhone
The image quality is excellent - crisp and clean edge-to-edge
The lens is lightweight and easy to carry and mount
There is no additional focus ring to worry about like some of the other long telephoto lenses on the market
It's very easy to focus as it just works like any other lens with auto focus (unlike others mentioned above)
You can add a 6X or 10X macro attachment to the lens to shoot great long-range macro shots (from about 7 to 15 inches away)
It comes with a magnetic filter mount to easily add various magnetic filters
17mm universal mount - so it works with ReeFlex or Sandmarc cases, along with cages from Beastgrip, SmallRig, Freewell and more
Again, it's a very nice lens and would be a great addition to any mobile filmmaking and/or photography kit.
